All About Toddlers- Speech & Language Development Talks

In November 2020, Right Start Children’s Services started an “All About Toddlers” virtual talk series for parents that focuses on providing valuable information, strategies, and tips to foster speech and language development for your child. We wanted to offer this free resource for parents because we are passionate about helping children and families reach their full potential! Every session focuses on a different topic related to speech and language development and teaches you how you can help your child learn how to talk and become better communicators.

This series of parent education talks is led by a certified speech and language pathologist, who allocates time for questions and answers from parents during and at the end of each session. Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) assess speech, language, cognitive, communication, and oral/feeding/swallowing skills. They use a variety of strategies to facilitate a child overcoming a problem.

Here are some of the past All About Toddlers topics that have been covered:

  • BabyTalk Bootcamp- Let’s talk about 10 specific strategies you can use right away to help your child learn language and be a more effective communicator.
  • Let’s Talk About Toys– How to use puzzles, blocks, vehicles, and more to foster language learning.
  • Sign Language– What are the benefits of teaching my baby or toddler sign language? Learn 20 simple signs to start using today.
  • Routines– What is a routine? Why are they important? Learn how to use daily routines to set up opportunities for your child to learn language.
  • Talking, Reading, & Singing– Learn how to talk, read, and sing your babies and toddlers every day to foster speech and language development.

Highlights from these talks are repurposed into strategy spotlight posts on social media. We want to help parents learn strategies that they can use at home with their little one. For our sign language talk, we had one of our therapists explain an easy-to-use sign for parents:

The All About Toddlers Talk Series will be offered November through April. For parents that are interested in joining, you can email karla@rightstartservices.com. To stay informed on future strategy spotlights, talk series, future Right Start events, and educational content about your child’s development, follow us on social media!
